The fastest way to develop your fingerboard knowledge with respect to note names is to use a system of landmarks to "find" the note you are searching for quickly. Minimize memorization, learn to search on the guitar, this will serve you well later.

• Learn the names of the open strings

• Learn the names of the 12th fret (same letters as the strings)

• Learn the names of the 5th fret (each note on the 5th fret is the same name as the open string above *except G*)

  • Learn the name of the 4th fret on G string

• Learn the names of the 7th fret (each note on the 7th fret is the same name as the open string below *except B*)

  • Learn the 8th fret on the B string ​

• Move on to Landmarks II and discover the tips and tricks you need to find any note using this system
