Fretboard Visualization - Landmarks II
The fastest way to develop your fingerboard knowledge with respect to note names is to use a system of landmarks to "find" the note you are searching for quickly. Minimize memorization, learn to search on the guitar, this will serve you well later.

After learning the landmarks on the open, 12th, 5th, and 7th frets we look at tips to find the remaining notes

Learn the natural (no #'s or b's) on the low E string

Learn the natural (no #'s or b's) on the A string

E/D and A/G octave shapes

D/B and G/e octave shapes

#'s go up the neck (toward the bridge)

b's go down the neck (toward the headstock)

The low E string = the high e string
-
Every note available is at most 2 frets from a landmark
