Fretboard Visualization - Landmarks II

The fastest way to develop your fingerboard knowledge with respect to note names is to use a system of landmarks to "find" the note you are searching for quickly. Minimize memorization, learn to search on the guitar, this will serve you well later.

  • After learning the landmarks on the open, 12th, 5th, and 7th frets we look at tips to find the remaining notes

  • Learn the natural (no #'s or b's) on the low E string

  • Learn the natural (no #'s or b's) on the A string

  • E/D and A/G octave shapes

  • D/B and G/e octave shapes

  • #'s go up the neck (toward the bridge)

  • b's go down the neck (toward the headstock)

  • The low E string = the high e string

  • Every note available is at most 2 frets from a landmark
